REALTORS® Set Bold Legislative Agenda for 2025: Housing, Fairness, and Flexibility at the Forefront

The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) has released its 2025 Legislative Priorities, and the message is clear: unlocking housing supply, supporting fair housing, and protecting the rights of independent professionals are top of mind.

With the U.S. facing a staggering 4.7 million-unit housing shortage, NAR is backing commonsense legislation to jumpstart supply, convert underused commercial spaces into homes, and reduce the barriers first-time buyers face. Bills like the More Homes on the Market Act and the Revitalizing Downtowns and Main Streets Act aim to create real pathways to affordability and neighborhood revitalization.

NAR is also advocating for inclusive housing policy by supporting the Fair and Equal Housing Act to ensure LGBTQ+ Americans are explicitly protected under the Fair Housing Act.

For the 88% of REALTORS® who are self-employed, legislative support for Association Health Plans and preserving independent contractor status are critical to sustaining a flexible and resilient workforce.

These priorities reflect the REALTOR® commitment to equity, entrepreneurship, and sustainable growth. As policymakers return to Washington, NAR’s policy blueprint offers solutions that benefit consumers, communities, and the broader economy.
